Fragments of Voyages and Travels is taken from the title given to nine volumes of travel writing that my great grandfather’s grandfather, Captain Basil Hall wrote from the years 1802 to 1842. He travelled the world extensively, resulting in the name Hall being used to far fling places around the globe, from Sir James Hall Island off Korea to Basil Hall Bay in Artic Canada and on Isla de los Estatodos in Argentina.

His work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization, as we know it. He was also one of the early pioneers of photography.  In the years 1827 – 1828 he traveled through America using a camera Lucida, which he used to capture with mechanical accuracy the land and it’s people and created the body of work “ Forty Etchings Made With a Camera Lucida”. These sketchings have widely been accepted as some of the first images of North America.
